GoldGetter (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website goldgetter.app and the GoldGetter companion application (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create a GoldGetter account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Display name
  • Password (stored only as a salted, one-way cryptographic hash — we never store or have access to your plaintext password)

1.2 Game Data

The GoldGetter companion application reads World of Warcraft SavedVariables files stored on your local computer. This data may include:

  • Auction house price snapshots
  • Character names and realm information
  • Gold balances and inventory data
  • Transaction and crafting history

Price snapshot data is synced to our servers so that it can be aggregated and shared across the GoldGetter user base, improving market data accuracy for everyone. Character-specific data (names, gold balances, inventories) remains local to your device by default and is only synced if you explicitly enable cloud backup.

1.3 Usage and Technical Data

We automatically collect limited technical information when you use the Service, including browser type, operating system, IP address, and pages visited. This data is used solely for service reliability, security monitoring, and aggregate analytics.

2. Cookies & Local Storage

We use cookies and browser local storage to maintain your authentication session. These are strictly functional — we do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from staying logged in.

3. Browser Notifications

GoldGetter may request permission to send browser push notifications for price alerts and deal notifications. You can grant or revoke this permission at any time through your browser settings. We do not send marketing or promotional notifications.

4. Payment Processing

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not store, process, or have access to your full credit card number, CVV, or other payment card details. Stripe’s collection and use of your payment information is governed by their own privacy policy.

5. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide the Service: authenticate your account, sync market data, deliver price alerts, and manage your subscription.
  • Improve the Service: aggregate anonymized price data to build more accurate market models for all users.
  • Communicate with you: send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, subscription receipts) and, if you opt in, product updates.
  • Ensure security: detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: trusted vendors who help us operate the Service (e.g., Stripe for payments, cloud hosting providers), bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal requirements: when required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
  • Aggregated data: anonymized, aggregated market data (price trends, item statistics) that cannot identify any individual user.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and associated data, you may do so at any time by contacting us at support@goldgetter.app. Upon receiving a deletion request, we will remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data that has already been incorporated into market models may be retained indefinitely.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children’s Privacy

GoldGetter is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Request a portable copy of your data
